Dani Alves tries to use his kids to get out of jail

Former footballer Dani Alves remains behind bars in Barcelona, where he is considered a flight risk as he awaits trial for an alleged rape.

The Brazilian’s defence have again requested bail, now trying to use his children as leverage.

Alves‘ lawyers argue that there is no way he would leave the city given that his adolescent children attend school in Barcelona.

The former Blaugrana star requested bail again on April 20 after giving the judge yet another version of what happened that night at the ‘Sutton’ nightclub.

The defendant now insists that consensual took place with the alleged victim. Meanwhile, his lawyers have said it is “unthinkable” he would attempt to leave Barcelona if allowed out of jail as he doesn’t want to disgrace his family.

Alves wants to defend himself

The Brazilian international’s lawyers argue in their appeal that the risk of their client fleeing the country is “non-existent” given that the evidence in the case provides a “solid perspective” for the defence.

Dani Alves is able and willing to defend himself and will not evade prosecution,” the appeal states.

In order to avoid the risk of flight, Alves‘ lawyers stress that he has a “life project” in Barcelona, where he has always wanted his children to receive a university education.

He has therefore registered them in Spain, where his eldest son will study the last year of high school.

The appeal also refutes the arguments of the private prosecution, which argues that Alves’ flight risk has increased after his wife, the model Joana Sanz, announced last month through social media her intention to separate from him after eight years of marriage.

To this end, the lawyers have provided the Barcelona Court with a screen shot of the footballer’s legal files, which do not contain any divorce suit filed by his wife.
