Super Eagles Vacancy: NFF Chief Provides Hint on Next Potential Nigeria Coach

The coaching situation for the Super Eagles of Nigeria continues to be a major talking point within Nigeria’s footballing community.

A succession of high-profile names have been linked with the coveted position ever since the departure of former coach, Jose Peseiro, upon the expiration of his contract.

 

The vacancy announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have sparked a flurry of applications,

 

with reports swirling that the Federation’s technical committee is now entering the crucial phase of scrutinising these submissions.

 

However, as the rigorous screening process is about to begin,

a report suggesting an NFF chief hinting at the preferred candidate to take on the Super Eagles job has emerged.

According to the report from OwnGoalNigeria, a senior official in Federation, speaking anonymously, hinted that Portuguese tactician, Antonio Conceicao, is the frontrunner for the Super Eagles job.

 

The report suggests that the 62-year-old is favoured largely due to his previous coaching experience on the African continent. Notably, Conceicao previously coached the national team of Cameroon.

 

However, the report also notes that while Conceicao may have an advantage due to his African experience, this does not guarantee his appointment as the manager of the Nigerian team.

The Nigerian football official emphasised that interim manager Finidi George will continue in his role as assistant coach,

 

as the NFF values continuity and wants someone who has previously worked with the team to remain involved, regardless of who becomes the manager.

 

Nonetheless, while the identity of the next Super Eagles coach remains uncertain, this recent report adds another intrigue to the coaching situation of the Nigerian team.
