Lagos Assembly Inauguration : Obasa re-elected Speaker For 3rd Consecutive Term

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, proclaimed and inaugurated the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The proclamation marked the commencement of the 10th Assembly’s legislative duties in the state.

Proclaiming the 10th Assembly, Sanwo-Olu said, “Members-elect, ladies and gentlemen, in the exercise of the powers conferred on me, I hereby proclaim the 10th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

In his address at the ceremony held at the Assembly complex in Alausa, the governor said, “I stand ready to work with the 10th Assembly, collaborating to drive impactful policies and fostering an environment where the hopes and dreams of every Lagosian can be realised.”

He noted that the legislature is “an indispensable pillar of our democracy” and “the embodiment of the hopes and aspirations of our people, a crucial partner in the quest for good governance, and a custodian of our shared democratic values.“

He, therefore, stressed the importance of cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect, adding that the executive and the legislature were partners “in this democratic journey.”

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing the Agege 1 Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been re-elected as Speaker of the House for the third consecutive term.

Obasa, who was nominated by Temitope Adewale, representing Ifako-Ijaiye 1 state constituency, emerged as Speaker of the 10th Assembly shortly after the governor proclaimed the Assembly on Tuesday morning.

Others elected to steer the leadership wheels of the Assembly include: Lasbat Meranda (Apapa 1), Deputy Speaker; Noheem Adams (Eti-Osa 1), Majority Leader; Damola Kasunmu (Ikeja 2), Deputy Majority Leader; Mojeed Fatai (Ibeju Lekki 1), Chief Whip; and Setonji David (Badagry 2), Deputy Chief Whip.
